Why you shouldn't vent anger (according to science and philosophy)
We celebrate and even glamorize anger as a society. But should we believe the hype? This video shows why we shouldn’t vent anger and why we’re better off preventing and reducing this emotion altogether.

When your self-worth depends on what you achieve

I can only agree but it is very nuanced, expressing might look like venting but verbalizing without screaming helps me process things with reason and logic and find many times that ilogic thougths or expectations emerge from those bursts, allowing me to think beyond the moment and deal with the experience.

I like your videos and resonate with them. This is something which I struggled with and struggled even more with because so few people acknowledge what is happening. Thank you for your awareness. I basically feel my worth depends on my successes or failures. I thought I was the only one who thought this. But now it makes sense that I am just a byproduct of my time and environment.

The Bible says be angry but sin not. I take that to mean be angry for a just cause, but not at an individual. So, you can be angry at something someone says as long as you're not taking it personally

Hinduism, the way of life from the East has practical solutions for psychosomatic issues. For anger especially, the Bhagwat Gita says, "From anger arises delusion; from delusion, bewilderment of memory; when memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost; and when intelligence is lost, one falls down again into the material pool." "There are three gates leading to the hell of self-destruction for the soul: lust, anger, and greed. Therefore, one should abandon these three." While there are many many solutions provided in the scriptures, I personally used the following to tackle Anger. 1. Journaling, once you write it down, you are forced to reason it out. 2. Yoga Nidra, the muscle relaxant thing in the video is actually the ancient art of Yog Nidra. 3. The first 4 steps of Ashtanga yoga, are yam (do the right things), niyam (avoid wrong things), asana (stretching exercises), and pranayam (control the Breath), the first four levels are adequate for anger control. Apart from these, people are mostly aggressive, frustrated, and bad-mouthed, they have their Anhat (heart chakra) operating in tamasic mode, situation can be somewhat elevated with Satvic food and also devotion to god/attachment to god. Try it. I've found all these practical and useful in my life.

This channel is literally a God send! Got me started down the path of reading stoicism which led me to becoming catholic after 20 years of being atheist. I have struggled with anger most of my life, this video is a great help. I pray the full rosary at eucharistic adoration every Tuesday now and it helps a lot. Also I've had a slipped disc in my neck for many years but after I started praying the full rosary as St Louis de Montfort instructs in the presence of the eucharist, it just went away. I can't explain it any other way, I woke up Wednesday morning and it was just gone. Thank you for this channel!

When using arousal inducing exercises to vent anger, focus your technique rather than power exerted. You'll be calm to examine your anger soon enough! The point of doing silly shit like breathing exercises and meditation is to focus on your technique, but breathing too hard and forceful will also lead to increased anger.

Not sure I particularly agree with everything said, my man. Personally I find that physical activities have made me better at regulating my emotions, particularly running. In essence, I find when I routinely incorporate these into my day, I rarely arrive at anger in the first place, and are more likely to approach stress with a sense of poise and reason. If I’m misled by the emotion, then again it returns me to my center, where I can dispel the emotion with logic and reason.

Thank you for this video. I've been watching your video essays for years, yet never left a comment before. As a someone who usually taps into curiosity and a healthy "go-getter" attitude by simply being excited about things and able to make things happen, I've now been stuck in a deep rut for quite a long time. Accepting this "chrysalis phase" as I call it has been a different, yet very important teacher. My value is not in my output. It is in my existence. I don't need to hurry up. This video definitely unlocked something very healing and clarifying. Thank you.

I feel like anger is often confused with agression. While anger is an emotion (a biological response, which you cannot prevent), agression is a choice. A lot of the experiments mentioned involved releasing anger through agression (hitting nails with hammers, using a punching bag, screaming into pillows etc.) which would understandably lead to more agressive behavior when angry. Anger in itself is not a choice, it's something that happens, when we feel like, we have been wronged. Anger is the tip of the iceberg, it highlights a deeper lying issue, which we can then work through. If we never felt anger, we would never question an unjust situation and try to change it. Anger is only dangerous, when we never question, what the underlying problem is and respond with agression or violence.

My last 2 anger situations: An hour ago I came downstairs to let my very old dog go outside to pee and see that she had peed all over the floor. Having just woke up, I was irritated(angry) about having to clean up all this urine and vented by telling her she was a "bad dog" as she looked at me with guilt...This adrenaline helped me to clean the urine. I had controlled anger(I didn't beat her or yell loudly but she knew the voice wasn't calming). I then let her out and petted her later to give her reassurance and our usual love. The 2nd anger feeling: 2 days ago I was playing doubles pickleball and an opponent questioned the legality of my serve. I'm a higher level player and it's a wicked serve and no one has questioned it before so it definitely "raised my ire" which was a mistake for him! I then become "hyper focused" and preceded to put a "beat down" on that team. It's all about awareness of your emotions/thoughts/ego. I know that I'm hardwired as an emotional person. When a situation arises where I feel irritation/anger on a perceived threat, I have a another voice above my ego/thoughts assessing the situation and saying to my ego "ok ego, you're pissed right now and here comes the adrenaline for fight or flight, let's use this hormone to our advantage for the focus/energy that it can bring, and be aware of the potential regretful words/actions that can also happen if you lose that anger awareness. "Don't allow the wind of anger blow out the lamp of intelligence". I sincerely hope this helps someone who allows anger to damage them.
